“Letting go of what is no longer needed makes room for what is fresh and new.” - Today’s Daily Word, July 7, 2010
What do I no longer need in my life? Certain types of work projects? Clients? Friendships?
How about beliefs? After all, my thoughts and beliefs create my life.
These past several days have been a challenge for me, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Letting go of attachments in all forms simplifies my life and the clutter in my brain. And no matter the chaos, the confusion, or the no longer needed thing in my life still hanging out, I must remember always -
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” - Psalm 46:1 (KJV). When I really contemplate the meaning of this statement, I am in awe. I rest in faith and peace.
God IS. I must acknowledge the One Power and One Presence, and affirm it daily. Then I know that all is well despite appearances.
Dear God;
As I wake up to what is needed and what is not, I know You are my refuge, and my strength comes through You. Show me Your Will, show me Your Way. Today I make room for what is fresh and new, knowing You are ever present and all is well.

The Path of Waking Up
I’ve been nursing a head cold for several days now, God’s way of getting me to slow down. My ears are stuffed up, my eyes watery, my short term memory... well, short - VERY short! So one could accurately say that communication between me and others might not be that clear.
Still, Rog has been patient when I ask him to repeat himself so I can make sure I’ve heard him correctly. I’ve misheard several phrases and we’ve been able to laugh at my perception of what he said. Perception for any human being is difficult on any given day, but in this physical body currently, it’s even more so. We’re accepting the circumstances and one another, doing our best to make ourselves clear speakers and clear receivers. We’re laughing and saying “I love you” when a message gets lost in my mind’s translation.
But what about when we’re all in pretty good physical condition - then what’s the reason behind miscommunication? Do I hear any votes for the ego, for not being in fit spiritual condition? One is either in their ego mind or their God mind - there’s no middle ground.
I have to be in fit spiritual condition to accurately perceive when someone makes accusations towards me that have no basis in reality - well, certainly not mine - that something else is going on with that person. It’s not about me. It’s not personal even if it appears that way. When someone chooses to cling to their position, their ego is at work, keeping them closed to other options and possibilities. And, their heart has been clamped shut. Not a fun place to be for anyone.
I certainly don’t want to live that way and I am grateful to be waking up. It’s not always easy, with relationships and possessions going by the wayside through necessity. Waking up means honestly looking at my inner thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors with a microscope so that I can know and be who I truly am. From there, I walk in this world coming from the place of Spirit. Acceptance, love, compassion, and kindness prevail.
Waking up can be challenging, but sticking with the illusion would mean being an open and willing partner to ego, to unnecessary pain and suffering. Freedom is at stake.
On this new earth we may find ourselves not making the journey with the long-time companions we thought would be accompanying us. But we will all get Home and be reunited with those we needed to let go of along the way of getting there. We are One and that can never change.
Dear Spirit -
Thank You for Your mercy and compassion as we each do what we can to wake up to You and to who we really are. May I demonstrate mercy, compassion, forgiveness, and unconditional love to all on my path, yesterday, today, and tomorrow. And, may each do the same with me!

We're in This Together
Whether I am being paid $15/hour or $50/hour, or I am “volunteering” my time, my desire is always to be in a helping mode. I can’t say that I always behave in that manner.
I found myself yesterday thinking in terms of money and disturbance when called ‘off hours’ to help a client of a client. Gratefully, my conscience quickly got me to want to help this person even though it “wasn’t my job.” After this decision was made, it turned out the person was able to solve the problem herself. Ya think my decision influenced the Universe?... Perhaps.
Wouldn’t it be nice if each of us knew, really knew, that there’d always be help available? And, when we gave assistance, we’d get ‘paid’ with knowing we’d receive help too whenever we needed it? ...that we were never alone? Of course, Spirit is always with us to guide and help, but often we need a real, live human being to carry out the work.
The current money economy is such a separator of people, to one another, to themselves, to God. Well, that’s changing and I’m so glad. A new earth is coming where people live from the heart, in community, bartering and helping one another in all aspects of life.
My prayer is to continue opening my heart in service to others. We are all part of The One, giving and receiving. What I give returns to me, returns to us. Let I not build barriers to healing the separation, but be part of the solution to our return to Oneness.

We Are One
I just read a story about a gifted, delightful high school student who was diagnosed with cancer in the beginning of his senior year. Even as the disease rapidly advanced, he continued to attend school and do all his work, with the goal that he’d graduate with his class. He didn’t make it; despite Jeff's effort, he died just two months short of graduation.
It always saddens me when someone succumbs to an illness like cancer, especially a young adult or child. I have my views about the causes of sickness and how to remedy them - not of the western conventional nature - and so I often feel frustrated and angry too because of the failure to cure.
But this morning my usual feelings were quickly replaced by remembering that we come here to planet Earth to accomplish something, to be of service. So anytime a person ‘checks out,’ it can only mean that they’ve completed their mission. It’s time to shed the current physical body, which is not who they really are, and have their spirit go Home to God.
This is not a new idea for me but it still pains me when someone I know makes their transition, for after all I can’t hug a spirit (not yet anyway) and communicate with them in the same way as when we are both in physical form. But I’m internalizing that our spirits are eternal even whilst our physical bodies are temporary, and we are truly One.
God is in each and every one of us - it can’t be otherwise. In fact, all of us are God and nothing can separate the parts we seem to be divided up into.
I feel I’ve made a big shift here in my heart, a peacefulness. We are all connected no matter whether we’re still working on our mission on planet Earth or we’ve completed it and moved on to the next one.
We are all One, there is no time and no space, and we are always together.
Namasté.

The Shift
Contrary to the thoughts of those around me growing up, I believed that if there was a God, He was a loving God, not a punishing God. His love for me couldn’t be dependent on anything I did or didn’t do.
As I came to believe, I have had to unlearn what I thought were “truths.”
For instance, my happiness is not dependent upon another person, place, or toy; it is dependent on keeping in fit spiritual condition and having a strong relationship with Spirit. It means working on my insides instead of seeking from that which is outside of me.
Then there’s the idea that if I were to give of myself and my possessions, I would be losing. Now I know that as I give I receive and that the two are one and the same. It’s win-win.
How about the idea that we’re separate? Nope - I’ve come to know that we are all One.
I like this exercise, inspired by one of this morning’s readings, of digging back and seeing how my philosophy - of people... the world... life - has shifted 180 degrees since I started waking up 20 years ago. How fascinating.
Once I was lost, but now I am found. Thank You, God!

The Circle
At yesterday’s Gratitude Circle there was a lot of sharing about life, death, rebirth, ‘burning in the fire’, and family too. They’re really all related, ya know?
My 12 Step brethren and the Unity of Sedona folks are my true family. Unlike my family of origin, they have taught and continue to teach me about how to live life healthfully and joyfully. They were and are the ones who teach me about love and practice it.
When I am in the fire, having an episode of the dark night of the soul, as they share their experience and their love, I grow and move out of it. In times of death of a person or my own dying to become who I really am, they are there to shine their light and love as I go through my anger, grief, my healing process.
I come out of the circle filled with more love than when I entered, refreshed and reborn to go out into life and the world so as to continue my learning and to share what has so generously been given to me.
Today is Easter. Today and every day I am reborn into greater love, understanding, and awakening to what is truly real. There is no need to ever be alone. In the circle and especially today it is clear in many ways that you, me, and the Father are One.
We are living in grace.

God in Our Midst
Here it is Saturday morning, another opportunity to reflect on what I am grateful for as I prepare to attend my circle of gratitude.
Last night I attended what for me was a most unusual event: a celebration of Passover and the Last Supper. It was a evening of learning, music, joining together - and, of course, food! I appreciate our hostess opening up her home to us. More importantly, I so appreciate her opening up her rich heart.
E. is an awesome woman. She is a gracious, generous, and appreciative hostess. She has the joy, curiosity, innocence, and wonderment of a child; the education, life experience, and wisdom of an elder; the love, peace, and patience of a saint. Even her singing voice makes me think of an angel. Obviously she has a very close connection to Source; it is an inspiration to witness and makes me feel a part of.
I am grateful for people such as E. who so clearly convey to me that Spirit is not only present, but is within each of us, reaching out to others and showing them that God is in them too and that we are One.
God bless.

Primary Purpose
Just sit there right now. Don’t do a thing. Just rest. For your separation from God is the hardest work in this world. – Hafiz
This waking up business can be pretty tricky and challenging. The idea of unity with Source and of course with other people is great, but it’s often not simple or easy to think or behave in accordance with it. Waking up is my primary purpose and I cannot do it alone - obviously.
What a wonderful assurance this is: "Let there be light." What a blessing it is to know that the light of God is within me, day and night, in good times and in challenging times. One with God, I face each day with confidence. – Daily Word, 01.31.10

Success
Let us work as if success depended upon ourselves alone; but with heartfelt conviction that we are doing nothing and God everything. – St. Ignatius Loyola
I am the vehicle in which Spirit moves and in fact I cannot move without Spirit, the One Source of all. So when my ego struts about how well I did something or compares me to others, I remember that God is the engine behind me. God guides me, God moves me. My success depends on God.
Every day, every moment of placing my will and my life in the hands of God and following the Great Mystery’s guidance to the best of my ability... that is success!

Duality
“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.” - Anne Bradstreet
It is true that in this world of duality, the contrasts make me appreciate the positive side of things. All in all, as my Aunt Katherine remarked to me last week, I’ve had a good life. And, there’s always been a few areas of it that have posed a struggle and tipped toward the negative side of the scale. One of these has been financial resources.
I am ready to receive prosperity in all forms, but especially financial abundance. I’ve had enough experience - and hopefully learning - that I no longer need to go through the experience of seeming lack in order to realize my financial good.
Dear Spirit -
I know that You are the One Presence, One Power, and the Source of all. In this world of duality, may the scale tip toward the positive and enable me to appreciate all the good in my life with me no longer having to experience the shadow side. With You all things are possible, including this. Thank You, thank You, thank You!

One With God
The message below brings comfort to me and restores my soul... It says a mouthful and expresses my own beliefs succinctly. I am grateful to know that I am truly one with God.

ONE WITH GOD
I am one with God every moment of every day.
What does it mean to be one with God? Is it a feeling in my heart? Is it an assurance deep within my soul? Perhaps it is an inner knowing that, regardless of appearances or circumstances, I am one with the peaceful, all-providing presence of God.
The word oneness implies a sense of belonging. I belong with God. I am one with the spirit of God, the Spirit that is forever guiding me, protecting me and strengthening me in mind and body. My oneness with God assures me that I am never alone. I am one with God day and night. Knowing that God is with me and within me, I feel safe and connected, healthy and whole, assured of peace in all situations.
He came to her and said, "Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you."--Luke 1:28

Peace
There is no doubt in my mind that peace within me is the most important condition I require, especially when my life is the way it currently is with huge changes and opportunities being presented each and every day.
When I’m at peace I know I’m in ”fit spiritual condition”, feeling close and connected to Spirit.
There are many ways that I can get back to that state of peace when I feel adrift. Deep breathing is a simple and powerful tool and I can do it anywhere, anytime – I just need to remember to do so.
Sitting still in the Silence even briefly is another way. This is not always as convenient a way to restore my peace. However, on more than one occasion, I have retreated to a women’s restroom, and found the privacy I needed to just be still.
Of course, my inner state of peace not only serves me well, but impacts those around me too. So when I’m at a gathering where ‘The Peace Song’ is sung, I wholeheartedly sing out the lyrics to Let There Be Peace on Earth, original lyrics by Sy Miller and Jill Jackson (circa 1955).
Let There Be Peace on Earth and let it begin with me.
Let There Be Peace on Earth, the peace that was meant to be!
With God as our Father, brothers all are we.
Let me walk with my brother in perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me. Let this be the moment now.
With ev'ry breath I take, let this be my solemn vow;
To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally!
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.
It is crucial for me personally to be at peace. And, since we are all One, it is crucial for this planet as well. I strive to be in such a condition so that I am part of the solution in creating a loving earth on which we can all thrive and be at peace.

Always One
Dear Spirit –
Thank You for these last few days close to Nature, camping along Oak Creek in Page Springs. I am most grateful for our dear friends who bring such richness, joy, caring, and fun into my life. Please bless them as they bless me and others.
Thank You for the new friends introduced into my life, and the spirit of cooperation, caring, kindness, and generosity amongst us.
Thank You for the invitation to view the Hopi Nation dancers, and the warm welcome I was greeted with. May I remember that even with the rich diversity of peoples, we are still all One.
We are One with the trees and we are One with all people. Remaining conscious of this truth keeps me close to You, and connected to all.

You Light Up My Life
Today is Rog’s and mine fourth wedding anniversary. During our ‘courtship’ Rog gave me a music box that played the tune “You Light Up My Life.” It was recorded by Debbie Boone and became the most successful single of the 1970s in the U.S.
So many nights I sit by my window
Waiting for someone to sing me his song
So many dreams I kept deep inside me
Alone in the dark but now
You've come along.
You light up my life
You give me hope
To carry on
You light up my days
and fill my nights with song.
Rollin' at sea, adrift on the water
Could it be finally I'm turning for home?
Finally, a chance to say hey,
I love You
Never again to be all alone.
You light up my life
You give me hope
To carry on
You light up my days
and fill my nights with song.
You light up my life
You give me hope
To carry on
You light up my days
and fill my nights with song.
It can't be wrong
When it feels so right
'Cause You
You light up my life.
- Written by Joe Brooks
In reminiscing about our early days, I got to thinking how these lyrics not only apply to Rog’s feelings towards me and vice versa, but to my relationship with Spirit.
Turns out I’m not the only one who thinks this. Although written by the composer as a love song, Debbie Boone interpreted the song as inspirational and proclaimed that it was instead God who "lit up her life." [Click here for some more trivia...]
Great minds think alike. Actually, me thinks it’s more like One Heart and One Mind. And really, everyone and everything can light up our life, if we so choose.
So many nights I sit by my window
Waiting for someone to sing me his song
So many dreams I kept deep inside me
Alone in the dark but now
You've come along.

You light up my life
You give me hope
To carry on
You light up my days
and fill my nights with song.

We Are One
Spurred by news received in some personal emails and today’s entry in Science of Mind Daily Guide, I am reminded to see the face of God in everyone and everywhere.
I still have my logical streak in me, so here goes:
If God is all there is, then everything is one.
If we are one, then all that we encounter is part of the One.
Our neighbors, our children, our pets, our computers, our work, our gardening, our car accident, our refrigerator, our house, our drinking issue, our peace, our joy...
These are all part of the One and each of us owns them, for we are them and they are us.
There really is no separation, only Oneness.
We are all one. And, so we are all in this gig together. May I remember this so that I am always reaching out my hand and heart to my fellows, whether they are in pain or in joy. I’m reaching out to me too at the same time.
Let us share all of Life – together, as the One we truly are.

The One Constant
I sold some of my office furniture today, part of a set of several matching pieces I bought when I first moved into this home. I’d never had a new office set and, in part, it’s a reminder of my now deceased dad’s generosity. The sale happened so quickly I didn’t have much time to digest its departure – and loss. Then, I had to reconfigure my office and set up all my computer equipment. I still have items to organize and some to give away. Change. As Rog and I strive to lead a simpler life, I’ve been getting rid of some things that I’ve had for almost my entire life. It feels weird – like we grew up together and now they’re leaving me. Change.
Antonio, 18 years old, departed the earth plane at full moon time this month, leaving my dear friend without her feline friend for the first time in 13 years of being together. She’s tired from helping him make his transition and now is entering the grief stage. Change.
We have friends and business colleagues who just sold their home and moved from Gilbert back to Ohio, where the wife grew up, to help with the care of her aged parents. Change.
One of Rog’s daughters secured her dream job, which also will now allow her to be near her love. Change.
I got an email from a friend telling me that she and her longtime partner have separated. Change. And, she’s in Nebraska now visiting with her terminally ill brother. Change.
Government... the economy... Mother Earth... and on and on.
Change. Change. Change. It’s just part of life and it can be quite unsettling while also being a wonderful growth opportunity.
Still, it’s comforting to know that Spirit is always with us, the one constant in life, and the One that we can rely on to bring us peace when so much else around us is in flux.

My Work
A reading this morning stated “An evolved soul judges no one, condemns no one, but realizes that all are on the road of experience, seeking the same goal...” (The Science of Mind, page 434).
I surely look at and accept my own life as one of experiences, traveling on a path of learning, doing the best that I can, awakening, and coming to know God in the fullest way possible. This mindset is transferable to all others I encounter on the road of Life. Simple, but not always easy.
I am reminded of the message I got this past Sunday: when I am in a state of worry, I am not in a state of spiritual consciousness. [Click hear to read a bit about it...] An evolved soul is an awakened soul, and that means I know that God is The Source for me and everyone else. I do not need to judge others, control others, be in fear, etc. If I am, I am not awakened, not in fit spiritual condition, not recognizing God is my Source and the One in charge.
My daily work is to grow my spiritual connection and strengthen my relationship with and faith in God - and then, it is to go out and practice it!
I rest in the knowledge that God is The One and Only Source. So it is, and all is well.

Blessings Everywhere
Rog and I left our home in Gilbert at 6:00 AM yesterday so that we could attend the 9:00 AM Unity of Sedona service in the beautiful Red Rock Country of Arizona. We were heading to Sedona anyway so why not incorporate a Sunday morning service and get some extra spiritual nourishment?
This Unity church is nestled among the trees of West Sedona, housed in a quaint space with large windows to view nature and more easily feel at One. Just lov-er-ly!
The minister’s talk on prosperity was abundant with many messages for me. The main and most powerful one was to bless everything, everyone, all the time.
But, perhaps the greatest message – or rather the one I was in greatest need of hearing at that moment – was that when I’m worrying about something or someone, I am not in a spiritually awakened state. Oish! And too, when I am being judgmental or critical, I’m not in a spiritually awakened state. Of course, none of this is news to me – just a great reminder.
Now lately I have been feeling at peace in many matters and hence have deemed myself spiritually awakened – at that moment. I have been in the flow and it has felt wonderful. But, ah, how easily I can slip, especially when it comes to challenging people in life. When I realize that all they’re really doing is crying out for love, I snap back into the spiritually awakened me, and love them and bless them.
I choose to treat everything and everyone as a blessing. Thank You, Spirit, for all the blessings you shower upon me.
