These days, after our good morning kiss, Rog often asks me, “Are you up for another adventure today?!” I always respond in the affirmative.
Life with Rog is an adventure. And, I say it’s that way mostly because with Rog comes God. Spirit is always with us and we are ever expectant of Its Joy, Love, and Peace.
Because we stay open and because we know that with God all things are possible, we never know what the day will bring. We seek God’s guidance, listen clearly for the Great Mystery’s messages, and then go into action as appropriate. We never know what new experiences, new people, or new ideas will manifest. Life is rich.
With Rog and God, my life cannot but be an adventure, one that I welcome each day with the good morning kiss of my beloveds.

The End
It’s the end of the day, the end of a weekend. It’s hard to believe we married a couple just two days ago - it feels like weeks! This weekend has been so rich.
Not only did Rog and I officiate at a wedding, but his daughter Emily visited us for the weekend. We’ve not seen her since Christmastime. And, I finished editing a novella for a client/friend. I sang in the Mystic Choir, listened to other music, and got to hear a friend’s story of his spiritual awakening when he spoke at Unity of Sedona. I met with a new client who is on a conscious spiritual path, which is my preferred type of client. And, I engaged in many conversations, some mini-, some a bit more, but all with the result of connection and getting to know one another better and being of service. Did I mention the hugs? Lots of hugs this weekend too.
All of the aforementioned enriches my life, my spirit. My soul gets nourished via connection, especially with folks that are on a journey of waking up.
I am so grateful for the plan God has for me. I may not know what He has in mind but there is no doubt that it is rich with people.
So as I get ready to have my head hit my pillow tonight, to end this day, I thank Spirit for all the blessings It has showered upon me. I’m doing the work of being willing and open to waking up. The Universe is responding to this energy with grace and prosperity. The awakening is its own joy and gift - and the prosperity is most welcomed too.

Eternal Words
“I bind to myself today God's Power to guide me, God's Might to uphold me, God's Wisdom to teach me.” - From St. Patrick's Breastplate
St. Patrick may have lived centuries ago but the above words - so important to him that he had them engraved on his breastplate - are ones that resonate with me today, here in the 21st century.
God is eternal and so is The Great Mystery’s power, might, and wisdom.
May I too use God’s Power to guide me, His Strength to keep me moving forward especially in the midst of challenges, and His Wisdom to help me live rightly and fully.

Amazing 20 Years
Today I celebrate the most important day of my life.
It was on Saturday, March 10, 1990, at 10:15am, on the upper side of Manhattan (NYC) that I first walked into the rooms of Overeaters Anonymous (OA), the 12 Step program based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). It is there where I found Home, my family of choice, and commenced my conscious spiritual journey. It was the beginning of transforming my entire way of living via changing my world view.
This day 20 years ago was the start of my coming to believe in a God of my understanding. And, having been a ‘devout’ atheist, that was no small feat! After all, I’d known about The Program for five years but had declined attending a meeting because I knew the word “God” was going to be uttered.
I had no idea what I was getting myself into and how much my life was going to change by finally taking that fateful step of going to my first meeting - I actually landed up attending three that very first day!. But I had reached bottom, knew that something was ‘wrong’ with me, and also knew that psychotherapy, while helpful with other issues, was not sufficient to address this issue of my eating disorder.
I am grateful to OA in more ways and for more things than I could ever recount. My life and relationships would not be what they are today if I had not adopted the 12 Step way of life and had a personality shift of huge proportion. Over the years of practicing the principles and relying on a Power greater than myself, my life has become rich in a myriad of ways and my journey of awakening has become more adventurous.
Today I celebrate: having conscious contact with the Great Mystery who I know is my Source; the love of other spirits having a human experience; knowing peace and serenity are mine any time I choose despite what’s going on in the outer world; knowing my life has a purpose and being of service – the list goes on, and on, and on.
It’s an extra special day of grace and blessing! Thanks be to Spirit, and to all of you friends of Bill W. whose paths have crossed mine, where together we are living in the solution. God bless.

This Day
This day my prayer is really the one I have every day but I realized that I’ve not given it expression in a while. And since there is power in expressing, it is time that I do so again.
This day my prayer is to clearly hear Spirit’s guidance and to follow it. My prayer is to do God’s will, and to do it in peace, and love, and joy.
And whatever is God’s will, I know the Great Mystery is with me to accomplish it, to give me the ability and strength to carry it out. I need only ask, be open, and be willing.
This day may I be all these things and more.

Gratitude
As I prepare to leave for my weekly Gratitude Circle meeting, I’m beginning to think about what I’m grateful for. And, I’m thinking that these days it seems that remembering gratefulness does not seem particularly natural. That is, it seems that I really need to pause and be conscious to take the time to review the blessings in my life, that I don’t often feel that ‘on the spot’ gratitude that I have often felt.
It is helpful that I now have a weekly meeting in my schedule where the focus is on gratitude. It opens my heart to hear others express their sentiments and it jump starts my own contemplation.
Expressing gratitude is an additional way that I feel closely connected to Source. So in these days of late where my ego is often churning 24/7 and my inner peace is not as consistently present as I would like, hearing and sharing on gratitude is an extra precious gift to me. And, it seems that once I start making a gratitude list (verbal or written), it snowballs and grows to practically no end.
Dear Great Mystery-

The Look of God
Although my parents were not religious and I became a devout atheist at a young age, I nevertheless grew up with this visual as God as an anthropomorphic being.
Like many in the predominant Judeo-Christian culture of America, God was this huge man with a long white beard. And, in my mind, He sat on a throne, looking down, passing judgment on humans and instilling fear in them. Even as a young child I never ‘got’ how a Being who I had been told was supposed to be all powerful, all knowing, and all loving, could also be a punishing One. This contributed to my not believing in God.
Thanks to page 12 in the book Alcoholics Anonymous, where the novel idea of choosing one’s own conception of God was proposed, I came to believe. And in choosing my own belief in an all powerful, all knowing, and all loving Being - a God of my understanding -, the face of God changed. And changed... and changed.
These days God is Spirit, Higher Power, The Great Mystery, and known to me by many other names. Its look is usually not anthropomorphic, except perhaps when Spirit takes on human form as an angel in my life. The look of God is fluid for me – but the qualities are not.
So while I may sometimes visualize my Higher Power as this great energy field, a huge wonderful wave washing over me, or all of Nature surrounding me, God remains eternally all powerful, all knowing, and all loving.
I’ve also come to know many other wonderful qualities of Mother Father God: great Comforter, ultimate Listener, peaceful, Helper, Companion, interested only in my highest good, and, of course, always with me.
Since my early days as a child, I’ve sure come a long way in my relationship with God. It’s the ultimate journey of my life and one I’m glad I didn’t miss.

Success

I am the vehicle in which Spirit moves and in fact I cannot move without Spirit, the One Source of all. So when my ego struts about how well I did something or compares me to others, I remember that God is the engine behind me. God guides me, God moves me. My success depends on God.
Every day, every moment of placing my will and my life in the hands of God and following the Great Mystery’s guidance to the best of my ability... that is success!

Touched
What a delight to start my day (after meditation) reading an interview of Martha Williamson, the Executive Producer and Head Writer of the long-running TV show “Touched By An Angel.”
I loved watching that show and am grateful that I “came to believe” (four years before) in time to do so. It amazed me that such a subject matter would be broadcasted on a major network, and the message repeatedly offered one that resonated with my own philosophy. It did not preach and it was about faith and spirituality, not religion.
Beliefnet.com asked Ms. Williamson “What was the most important message of the show?” Her reply was “: God exists, God loves you, God wants to be part of your life, and He is there to have a personal relationship with if you seek Him.”
The aforementioned is a mighty powerful message, just like the Great Mystery Itself. And, the idea of having a personal relationship with God is one that I hadn’t often hear people talking about. However, it is a cornerstone of 12 Step philosophy, and has proved to be the truth for me.
It is through a personal relationship that I am touched and that I am at peace. It is through this that my soul grows and is strengthened in love, joy, and faith.
It is because of this personal relationship with God that I never need to feel alone. For at any time, I can be touched directly by Spirit, or by one of Its many angels. How cool is that?!

Communication
Just like a dear friend who lives thousands of miles and multiple time zones away, but with whom I can communicate by phone, email, or instant messaging, God is accessible. Even more so.
God is just a breath away, a thought away, a prayer away. Just thinking of God puts the Great Mystery right there in my conscious presence.
Modern communications systems are great, but God’s ancient way of communicating is at least as good.

Happy Birthday, Rog!

Rog stepped into my life five years ago this past July, and he has been loving me and I have been loving him just about since that first match.com email.
Through his love I have had a glimmer of what God’s unconditional love is like. I’ve healed a bit from my family of origin hurts by observing Rog with his children, seeing the kind of father he is. He’s a great role model and teacher for me in many areas, and his character, spirit, and love are a wonderful blessing to me.
I’m grateful to Rog’s parents for bringing his spirit into this world, for his mom going through childbirth, and for the Great Mystery once again getting these two twin flames together in this lifetime.
Thank you, Rog, for all of your love, all that you are, and all the best that you bring out in me. Thank you for this wonderful sacred union, and for being my safe harbor where I am regularly reborn in safety and in peace.
Thank You, Spirit, for blessing me – and many others – with this loving, faith-filled man with whom I am honored to be his best friend, wife, and intimate fellow adventurer in this game called Life.

God Will Provide
My source is God, Spirit, The Great Mystery, Higher Power, or whatever name I choose to call this concept of all oneness, infinite, omnipotent, omniscient Presence. It supplies me with everything and that supply is unlimited.
Emmet Fox reminds me that for practical purposes at any given time I draw from this inexhaustible Source only in accordance with the measure of my understanding, “just as you can draw water from the Atlantic only in accordance with the size of the vessel you use.” [Power Through Constructive Thinking, 1940, page 176]
Nonetheless, when God calls me to His Service, when I am on my right path, God pays all the expenses in whatever kind of coin. Whatever I may require to answer that call, to do God’s Will, God will provide. It can be in the form of money, opportunity, knowledge, training, strength, courage, etc. All I have to do is ensure that I am about God’s business, not about my own.
Dear God, as I understand You –
Please improve my conscious contact with You. I pray for knowledge of Your Will for me and the power and means to carry it out. And so it is.

All Things Are Possible
“I am very excited for you and Roger witnessing your courage and faith in the Universe bringing about what is in the higher good for the both of you. In the not too distant past I would have thought you two were crazy. Today you are my heroes - go figure!” - From an email sent by a new friend of ours.
It warms the cockles of my heart to have witnesses to what is transpiring in our life – and to be a demonstration to others, as we feel Spirit has called on us to be. In the past we too would have thought ourselves crazy! But through opening up to the Great Mystery and all the possibilities, all the power in the Universe, we are able to go through what seems to most, insanity.
It’s sometimes been scary, but I think the fact that these huge changes for us have, for the most part, happened gradually over the past year has made them easier for us to digest. Along with deeper and deeper contemplation about what is important in life and seeking God’s guidance, we are in a state of joyful expectancy and peace.
Thank You, Spirit, for the wonderful people You bring into our lives, and the wonders You perform to bring us back to You and our natural state of peace and joy.

Staying in Touch
Tonight’s blog topic is inspired by Elizabeth Sherrill’s article “Going Online”.
The Internet is a wonderful way to connect and communicate with others, anytime, anywhere – pretty much. I can be in touch with others via an email, a blog, or a website. I just have to go online.
It’s very much like staying in touch with God. I have the ability to connect with Spirit anytime I choose, anywhere I am. But I must remember to go online.
In the case of the Internet, I need some apparatus to be connected. A computer and an Internet Service Provider (ISP) to actually get me connected, and then an email account, for instance, to communicate.
Ahhh, but in the case of going online to God I need no additional apparatus save a desire to do so - then I just do it!
God is everywhere at all times, always accessible. The Great Mystery is closer than my breath, in every particle of my physical body and soul. There is no separation. Communication is ever present. I need no extra apparatus, for we are one - forever entwined.

Following One's Heart
There are many ways that we can serve God. Some of us find that we do it best and are true to our heart (to God, to ourselves) by doing it on a solitary path. That is, we find that we simply cannot give our fullest to Spirit when involved in a committed relationship with a human being.
Others find immersing themselves in community the best way to go in order to serve God. They live with housemates, work with many colleagues, and, in general, are in the world and in many close relationships.
I recently learned that a man, who I have heard speak God’s Word numerous times and who has stirred my heart, has chosen to give up a committed human romantic love relationship. In fact, it was a marriage. It seems that he has been in multiple marriages, and all but one ended in divorce. This man finds that he can only serve God best when he is not also committed to a life partner. He’s tried it and it just doesn’t work. The human relationship divides him and distracts him from his true life’s work.
I get it. I admire this man for his courage, his integrity, his honesty, his commitment – to Spirit and his heart. His last marriage was short-lived once he confronted this nagging issue and made the decision to give his heart solely to the Great Mystery. He and his former wife love one another and are great friends. That’s just the way it is. This man helps many people as his ministry goes well beyond the walls of the physical church. He serves God best and his spirit heals and thrives as he gives of himself to the many instead of a special one.
Yesterday’s blog (What God Wants) spoke to the idea that maybe what God wants is for us to just be free of the things that come between us and God. For me, I needed to change my daily allocation of time. I made the commitment to spend more time with Spirit. How pale this seems in comparison to my aforementioned friend. Yet, what wonderful food for thought.
Spirit has given each of us something unique to share with this world. Besides knowing what it is, we need to discover the best way to go about sharing it, and then make the commitment to carry it out. I’m still working on all of this. But, kudos to those who have found their true calling, know how to administer it, and are committed to it, their heart, and God. Thanks for being such a great role model to the rest of us. God bless you all!

This man finds that he can only serve God best when he is not also committed to a life partner. He’s tried it and it just doesn’t work. The human relationship divides him and distracts him from his true life’s work.
I get it. I admire this man for his courage, his integrity, his honesty, his commitment – to Spirit and his heart. His last marriage was short-lived once he confronted this nagging issue and made the decision to give his heart solely to the Great Mystery. He and his former wife love one another and are great friends. That’s just the way it is. This man helps many people as his ministry goes well beyond the walls of the physical church. He serves God best and his spirit heals and thrives as he gives of himself to the many instead of a special one.
Yesterday’s blog (What God Wants) spoke to the idea that maybe what God wants is for us to just be free of the things that come between us and God. For me, I needed to change my daily allocation of time. I made the commitment to spend more time with Spirit. How pale this seems in comparison to my aforementioned friend. Yet, what wonderful food for thought.
Spirit has given each of us something unique to share with this world. Besides knowing what it is, we need to discover the best way to go about sharing it, and then make the commitment to carry it out. I’m still working on all of this. But, kudos to those who have found their true calling, know how to administer it, and are committed to it, their heart, and God. Thanks for being such a great role model to the rest of us.
