Amazing 20 Years
Today I celebrate the most important day of my life.
It was on Saturday, March 10, 1990, at 10:15am, on the upper side of Manhattan (NYC) that I first walked into the rooms of Overeaters Anonymous (OA), the 12 Step program based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). It is there where I found Home, my family of choice, and commenced my conscious spiritual journey. It was the beginning of transforming my entire way of living via changing my world view.
This day 20 years ago was the start of my coming to believe in a God of my understanding. And, having been a ‘devout’ atheist, that was no small feat! After all, I’d known about The Program for five years but had declined attending a meeting because I knew the word “God” was going to be uttered.
I had no idea what I was getting myself into and how much my life was going to change by finally taking that fateful step of going to my first meeting - I actually landed up attending three that very first day!. But I had reached bottom, knew that something was ‘wrong’ with me, and also knew that psychotherapy, while helpful with other issues, was not sufficient to address this issue of my eating disorder.
I am grateful to OA in more ways and for more things than I could ever recount. My life and relationships would not be what they are today if I had not adopted the 12 Step way of life and had a personality shift of huge proportion. Over the years of practicing the principles and relying on a Power greater than myself, my life has become rich in a myriad of ways and my journey of awakening has become more adventurous.
Today I celebrate: having conscious contact with the Great Mystery who I know is my Source; the love of other spirits having a human experience; knowing peace and serenity are mine any time I choose despite what’s going on in the outer world; knowing my life has a purpose and being of service – the list goes on, and on, and on.
It’s an extra special day of grace and blessing! Thanks be to Spirit, and to all of you friends of Bill W. whose paths have crossed mine, where together we are living in the solution. God bless.

God's Helpers
“While you rest, angels will step in and restore serenity.” - Kathryn Schein
This is a comforting thought as I get ready to go to dreamland. As my head hits the pillow this evening, I will invite my angels to bring me wonderful dreams and spiritual guidance, and to restore my peace and serenity. I will then awaken refreshed and renew, feeling more connected to Source.
Thank You, Spirit, for your angels and many other helpers.

Serenity
My serenity is very dependent on my attitude.
When I hold an attitude of gratitude, I have serenity.
When I hold an attitude of joy, I have serenity.
When I hold an attitude of acceptance, I have serenity.
When I hold an attitude of love, I have serenity.
The list could go on and on, similar to when I draw up a gratitude list. And, simply going through the exercise is sufficient for me to feel serene. Ahhhh.

Home
I know home is where my heart is, and with God ever present, home is with me always. That means it’s inside of me.
Nevertheless, there’s something about my external home. Being a Cancer, my home is quite important to me and feels as snuggly as a cocoon. So even when I am away from it for just a day or two, I’m so glad to return to it.
Yeah, that sounds like attachment, I know. But it’s more than that. There’s a certain energy about it that exudes not only familiarity, but peace, serenity, joy, etc. and in a way that fits me just so. Hence, the minute I step into my house, I get an infusion into my soul of this great stuff.
I learned many moons ago, well before I knew what the words spiritual and energy referred to, that wherever I would make my home, it would be cozy because it would reflect my essence. That has proved true in the numerous abodes over the years that I have called home - each has been a lovely place to hang my hat.
No doubt my internal home is infused in my external home - kind of like, God is within me, God surrounds me. God is everywhere. Home is everywhere.
The next time I overnight at another locale, I’ll remember that my home truly is within me. Then maybe I’ll feel that place fits me just so too. After all, God will be with me, and God is my real Home.

The Pacesetter
In packing for our move, I’m finally getting to reread papers that I’ve held onto for years, traveling and just taking up space. My files have moved from Manhattan to Taos, several times around Santa Fe, and now have resided in the Phoenix area for almost six years.
I have much paper, for these came into my life before the computer and Internet were widely used.
It’s time to share these gems... Here’s one that can be found on the Internet.
Psalm 23: Japanese Version by Toki Miyashiro
The Lord is my pacesetter; I shall not rush.
God makes me stop and rest for quiet intervals:
God provides me with images of stillness, which restore my serenity.
God leads me in ways of efficiency through calmness of mind,
And God’s guidance is peace.
Even though I have a great many things to accomplish each day, I will not fret.
For God’s presence is here.
God’s timelessness and all-importance will keep me in balance.
God prepares refreshment and renewal in the midst of my activity, by anointing me with oils of tranquility.
My cup of joyous energy overflows; surely harmony and effectiveness shall be the fruits of my hours.
For I shall walk in the pace and dwell in God’s house forever.

God's Delivery
Last night I attended a service at The Little Chapel in Paradise Valley here in Arizona. Sara O’Meara and Yvonne Fedderson, the co-founders of Childhelp, officiate at this place of serenity where people of all faiths join together in worship and to receive healing.
During the healing portion of the service, Sara walked over to a woman sitting behind me, who I’ll call Janet. Sara had intuited that Janet believed that God had left her out of His healing grace. Sara stated that Janet had difficulty trusting God because of past experiences with people around the issue of trust. Sara reassured her that God had not left her out – she just needed to trust Him a bit more.
My heart resonated with what Sara was saying to Janet, and as Janet got teary-eyed, so did I. I did not grow up in a trusting environment and I can see how that could carry on into my conception of God, especially with the way things are in my life right now. I need to trust in God more, to have more faith.
The issue of physical vision came up for a number of people and it seemed that all of them were healed instantaneously. I know that my spiritual vision has been impaired, showing up in my attitude and affecting my relationships. God is The Source of all my good. I may not know what the channels of delivery are, but I must know and keep the spiritual vision that God wants me to have all the riches of His Kingdom. My job is to keep my mind and heart open to receiving and leave the ‘how’ up to Him.
Many who come to The Little Chapel are ostensibly seeking healing on the physical plane. As for me, I know I needed some spiritual cleansing and healing. And, I know that God delivered it through the channel of Sara and others who were gathered last night at TLC. I am grateful.

I am Love
I am Love, responding to other beings with kindness, caring, and respect.
I am Joy, living enthusiastically, vibrant in all activities.
I am Peace, walking in calmness and exuding serenity wherever I am.
I am as God would have me Be.

Gift From Spirit
This poem started materializing in my right brain as I lay in bed this morning debating whether to get up and start the day or hang out underneath the warm flannel sheets.
I don’t think I’ve written a poem since learning haiku in elementary school (I’m 53 now!), so this is an astounding occurrence for me. It could only have originated from Spirit.
______________________
In the wee hours of the morning as I lay in bed
I listen for messages from God
I so yearn to be at peace, hear God’s guidance, and be led.
Morning is a special time for serenity and peace
In prayer and meditation I find
It’s the opportune space for the connection that I seek.
As I go about my day focused on God, life goes well
I’m never far from Source or my good
Walking with Spirit, being in my heart, I choose to dwell.

The Destination
Our outlook on life must be transformed by the renewing of the mind, and even when the results are not immediately forthcoming, we must still maintain a calm serenity of thought.
- The Science of Mind by Ernest Homes, page 218
Ah... “...maintain a calm serenity...” Yep, no matter what is going on in the world, what truly matters is what’s going on inside me. I must be vigilant to take good care of myself so that I can face the outside world and engage in relationships in a loving, peaceful, joyful way.
A reading this morning talked about detaching from the destination so that you can enjoy the journey. In fact, detaching from the outcome allows one to connect to the journey. And, actually the journey is the destination.
Once again, the message for me is to be in the Now. In the Now there is peace and no fear - which is where I was headed again as I laid in bed early this morning - ugh! I made a quick about face, chanting the Prayer for Protection, and getting back on the God track. The God track is the only place I want to be. The Faith track, the Now Track, the Joy Track. Staying in the Now, I peacefully enjoy the journey, knowing the ultimate destination is Home.
