I have a friend who talks a lot about spiritual contracts.
My understanding is that a spiritual contract is the agreement between two souls to get together in a future lifetime to learn and grow together. It may be for business, love, familial, etc. experiences. And, my understanding is that once the contract has been fulfilled, each party is free to move on.
I think this concept is an interesting one and a most plausible explanation for the reason why some of the people who once were such a prominent part of my life are no longer in it at all.
Take for instance my friend, Gloria. We met in college and she became like a sister to me, the one I never had. We partied, ‘man-hunted’, shared life together in many ways. She married my favorite brother, and was a primary relationship in my life for most of 33 years. Then almost overnight she was gone.
One might say our relationship couldn’t survive her divorce after 25 years of marriage to my brother. Or that she was so overwhelmed from exhaustion and grief over the ten-year battle her ‘baby’ sister waged against cancer that she was a big part of. Or that she truly couldn’t forgive me for something she had imagined as a transgression of trust. Or... the stories could be endless, and I don’t suspect I’ll ever know what happened (although ‘the door is always open').
The idea that we had a spiritual contract that had been fulfilled makes a lot of sense to me. We had our time together, full of laughter, tears, confidences, etc. She was the very first person (in a platonic sense) aside from the few hugs I had received by some relatives, who embraced hugging as a natural phenomenon. She taught me its importance both emotionally and physically; she taught me about love.
I’m so grateful that Gloria was able to attend my wedding and help celebrate my finally finding The Man, the life partner I had so yearned for and that she was so well aware of since our college days. She was out of my life within my first year of marriage.
I can think of other folks who have come into my life, taught me some important lessons and vice versa I’m hoping, and then vanished. I’ve long since gotten over the pain of their departure and now the idea of spiritual contracts closes the door on questions of ‘why?’
Dear Spirit of the Most High-
Thank You for the people who agreed to meet me back here for another round of life learning and love. Bless them, bless them, bless them.

No Longer Alone
“Once you accept the existence of God – however you define Him, however you explain your relationship to Him – then you are caught forever with His presence in the center of all things.” – Morris West
When I came to believe in God, my entire philosophy about life and people changed (it had too!). From that followed changes in my relationships and the way I lived my life. The transformation was nothing less than phenomenal, miraculous. Not insignificant were feelings that now I was ‘a part of’, that finally I belonged to the human race, and I was no longer alone.
Before, when I was a devout atheist, single, living in the Big Apple, working a corporate job, I felt alone. I felt so alone that I thought I could drop dead and no one would know until perhaps after I hadn’t shown up for work for several days without advance notice. It was a sad and ugly feeling and not the way life is meant to be.
But then – through 12 Step program – I had Spirit in my life and I was no longer alone! It was a joy developing my relationship with Spirit and piecing together a new philosophy of the world and people. It continues to this day.
Since God is in the middle of everything, excitement abounds, possibilities are infinite, joy, love, and peace touch my life most frequently. I never have to go it alone as I seek God’s guidance, put one front in front of the other, trust God, and remain open. Not a small task at times, but it makes for a wondrous way of life.

Signs of God 1
On Friday, my husband, Roger Wyer, and I were headed to our standing Friday morning healers meeting. We were running late and, since I was driving, Rog used his cell phone to call our hostess to give her an ETA. We had a wonderful meeting, sitting outside overlooking the lush golf course, and enjoying the 75-degree November weather – hey, that’ why we live here in Phoenix and put up with 115-degree day summers!
As we were about to depart, our hostess remarked that when Rog’s call had come in, her phone caller ID displayed his telephone number accurately, but the caller was displayed as “Jay Wyer”. She showed it to us to prove it and said that Rog’s number had never shown up that way before.
Rog’s middle name is Jay, but he doesn’t use it much. But of course he and knew the name didn’t refer to him – it was his dad’s, who had passed on a couple of years ago. Seemed like Jay Wyer was trying to contact his son, which was not the first time. Doo-doo-doo-doo...
I doubt there is no real way to explain this phenomenon. However, I like to think that it is God’s way of making His Presence known and that is comforting to me. I also think it shows us that those who have crossed over are still with us, that there truly is no death. And, that’s a comforting thought too.
