“Blessed is the person who is too busy to worry in the daytime and too sleepy to worry at night.” - Unknown
... And blessed is my morning meditation practice to dissipate the fears that creep into my mind in the middle of the night!
Today I listened to the self-hypnosis CD Peace of Mind (Barrie Konicov) and it enabled me to let go of agitation. And, when I let go of worry, God can more easily get my attention - and I can get His help. The good ‘ol “Let go and let God.”
Today I live a faith-filled day. I know God is in charge, Divine Order IS and it does prevail: all is well. Ahhh.
“Today I claim my Truth. The presence and power of God work in, through and as my life, blessing others and blessing me. I recognize the interconnectedness of all human beings and trust that every situation and person has the potential to contribute to my life in a positive way. I create order in my life and seek only the good, assured that as I seek, so I shall find.” - Excerpt from Daily Word, July 1, 2010

Returning to Source
It is a relief for me to learn that meditation is not a practice - it is an intention. As a practice, I get frustrated because my mind seems difficult to quiet. But meditation as an intention is a declaration to return to God, and that is really what I strive to make my life about.
Meditation is the intention to get back to Source, the one thing that never changes and never left us. It is formless and permanent; all that is form is temporary. All true spiritual teachings call us to return our attention to Source. “Return unto to Me, and I will return unto thee.”
My egoic mind can go about chattering away as I sit in the silence, and Spirit doesn’t care one iota. Eventually, the chatter dissipates and I am the formless with The Creator. I am in an abiding state of awakening, my primary purpose for being on the planet.

Perfection
Today’s Daily Word is ‘healing” and the affirmation is “I bless my mind and body with thoughts of perfect health.”
As I embarked on my quiet time of meditation, I silently repeated the affirmation like a chant...
I bless my mind and body with thoughts of perfect health.
At some point I realized I was chanting I bless my mind and body with thoughts of perfect peace.
Ah - I like that.
So what about...
I bless my mind and body with thoughts of perfect love.
I bless my mind and body with thoughts of perfect joy.
I bless my mind and body with thoughts of perfect grace.
I bless my mind and body with thoughts of perfect faith.
The list could go on and on and on.
Perfect health, perfect peace, perfect love, perfect joy, perfect grace, perfect faith: blessing my mind and body with such uplifting, affirming thoughts certainly promotes healing.
What a fun gift this affirmation exercise was, and I’m sure I will carry its wonderful energy with me throughout the day. As I affirm these states of perfection, I affirm my oneness with God.
God is perfect and so is my true state.

Divine Dance Connection
Last night I went Sufi dancing - and what a divine experience it was!
This was not the whirling dervish variety developed by Rumi in the 13th century; it’s more like a moving meditation with singing.
Heart-centered Sufi dancing is a practice, a meditation of Divine Light and Bliss. One moves around the circle from partner to partner, allowing their thoughts to fall away as they experience the Divine in each other. As we connect with our eyes, we do simple, graceful movements while focusing on the positive words of powerful chants and songs.
Our humble, gentle, loving leader, Sydhasa, gave us instructions before each dance and taught us the words to contemporary songs of love, spirit, devotion, and peace. But it is not so much about the dance as it is the Divine connections we made with each other... so much from simply gazing into the eyes. I got to connect with spirits new to my acquaintance and strengthen connections already known.
Here is another form of spiritual practice that I can easily see incorporating into a (somewhat) regular part of my life. While I’d had some exposure to this practice before, last night’s gathering immersed me into it, bringing me joy, peace, and love. And, it was fun!
There are many ways we can connect to Source through other beings. This week God had me experience some ways that were a bit unique for me: socializing with a pooch, helping a child, and meditating with others through Sufi dancing. I am grateful!

Inner Peace
“I am at peace when my heart and mind are on God.” - Today’s Daily Word, March 22, 2010
Yes, indeed. Ya know the only place I want to be is with God. Of course, I am always with God, and God with me - it cannot be any other way. But I’m not always focused on God. And when my heart and mind are not on God, life is often tough and I do not feel at peace.
It’s like there is this veil, sometimes thick, sometimes thin. I’m on one side, sometimes fairly awake, many times asleep, and God is always on the other side, fully present. I endeavor to get that veil as thin as possible through prayer, affirmation, meditation, sitting in the silence, etc.
I endeavor to keep my heart and mind staid on Thee. There I am in bliss, joy, and peace.

Watering My Soul
Scott Walker tells the story of purchasing his favorite flowering plant, the hibiscus. He bought it during the summer, placed it on his patio, and without any effort on his part, it was nurtured by rain and his sprinkler system. It grew rapidly, and was lush with rich green leaves and bright trumpet blossoms.
Brought into his sunny breakfast room to protect it from the cold in the winter, the hibiscus was not automatically water. Scott forgot to water it and soon the hibiscus wilted, its leaves yellowed, and it was falling to the floor. He was ready to toss it into the garbage can, but as he passed the kitchen sink, he decided to try watering the hibiscus to give it one last chance. Soon the water brought the plant back to a flourishing life.
Scott recounts “This morning, as I sat at the breakfast table and looked at the hibiscus, it occurred to me that when I haven’t attended to my spiritual life, it begins to wilt and wither, and only prayer can bring back its vitality and rekindle its hope. If, in the midst of winter, I’ve allowed the frost to touch my soul, I cannot wait one more day to water it with prayer.”
How true Scott’s lesson is. I must nourish and tend to my soul regularly. It takes conscious effort on my part - it cannot be automatically fed and no one else can do it. When I take time to nurture my spirit through practice of prayer, meditation, reading, and helping others, I thrive and my life gets better and better.

Restful Words
I first heard “Rest unto me that I may rest unto thee” at the Unity of Sedona church. And, ever since then whenever I hear it uttered or see the words in print, a veil of peace descends upon me. It is just so lovely and comforting.
Just like another statement I’ve heard often at Unity: “Peace. Be still.” Chanting this is a helpful way to calm down and I use it as a meditation.
These statements call to mind Matthew 11:28-30 -
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
‘Tis true that I let out a big “Ahhh” when I hear any of the aforementioned. Keeping my focus on Spirit, I am in the Now. There I find rest, peace, stillness, and my yoke becomes easy and my burden light.

Want Versus Need
I’ve really been learning a powerful lesson as these many past moons have gone by without a steady stream of income from one channel (i.e., a j-o-b): Spirit has provided for my needs at the very least, and at times even for my wants even though money wasn’t as abundant as I’ve thought it should be. And, I realize that my life is simpler, less stressed, and more joyful.
We have a roof over our heads, food in the pantry, clothes on our backs. These are basic needs, that when not satisfied can make one fearful, and unable to focus on anything else life has to offer until addressed. God has us covered.
We have good health – mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically (most days).
We wanted to attend a number of events this past weekend in Sedona and be able to overnight for two nights. Our experience was one where Spirit gave us more than what are the basic needs to survive. And, without having to dip deeply in our not so deep pockets.
We enjoyed two nights in a spacious, lovely condo to stay in without paying the $300 it would have cost had it not been for the kindness of the owner, our friend, and our agreeing to play housekeeper. In doing gardening service at Unity, we were fed lunch on Saturday. We attended a potluck on Sunday, and friends treated us to dinner on Monday. We were spiritually nourished at a mystical musical meditation one evening, a church service Sunday, and meaningful conversation with new friends and old throughout.
Except for fuel for our car and one meal tab in a restaurant, we really didn’t incur anymore than the ordinary expenses we would have had we stayed home. Yet, our spirits were enlivened by the natural beauty surrounding us in Northern Arizona and the spiritual beauty of the souls we encountered.
God, my Source, is providing for me. I am very blessed every day and realizing it more and more.

Comfort 24/7
It’s mid-afternoon and I’ve just finished eating a light lunch. Nevertheless, I feel sluggish, with little energy or enthusiasm to move back into my enjoyable work.
I just took a glance again at one of today’s meditations. It was about God being my strength and my comfort when I’m facing small or larger difficulties, stating that I can be comforted as I find a quiet place and close my eyes.
Yes, I can do that now too! Even for a lull in energy, I can take a break and seek God’s comfort. Spirit is always available for help in all situations – It is my strength.
So, ta-ta. I’m off to some quiet time with Spirit; I’m taking a comfort break with God to get re-charged by Source.

A Spiritual Conspiracy
I came across the following poem and was able to track down its author. Written by Brian Piergrossi, it is included in his book The Big Glow.
I resonated with it immediately... The world and its peoples are healing and moving to a higher vibration – yippee! Hope abounds.
Love Is The New Religion
On the surface of the world right now there is war and violence and things seem dark
But calmly and quietly, at the same time, something else is happening underground
An inner revolution is taking place and certain individuals are being called to a higher light
It is a silent revolution
From the inside out
From the ground up
It is time for me to reveal myself
I am an embedded agent of an secret, undercover
Clandestine
Global operation
A spiritual conspiracy
We have sleeper cells in every nation on the planet
You won't see us on the T.V.
You won't read about us in the newspaper
You won't hear about us on the radio
We don't seek any glory
We don't wear any uniform
We come in all shapes and sizes
Colors and styles
Most of us work anonymously
We are quietly working behind the scenes in every country and culture of the world
Cities big and small, mountains and valleys, in farms and villages, tribes and remote islands
You could pass by one of us on the street and not even notice
We go undercover
We remain behind the scenes
It is of no concern to us who takes the final credit
But simply that the work gets done
Occasionally we spot each other in the street
We give a quiet nod and continue on our way so no one will notice
During the day many of us pretend we have normal jobs
But behind the false storefront at night is where the real work takes place
Some call us the "Conscious Army"
We are slowly creating a new world with the power of our minds and hearts
We follow, with passion and joy
Our orders from the Central Command
The Spiritual Intelligence Agency
We are dropping soft, secret love bombs when no ones is looking

We each express ourselves in our own unique ways with our own unique gifts and talents
"Be the change you want to see in the world"
That is the motto that fills our hearts
We know it is the only way real transformation takes place
We know that quietly and humbly we have the power of all the oceans combined
Our work is slow and meticulous
Like the formation of mountains
It is not even visible at first glance
And yet with it entire tectonic plates shall be moved in the centuries to come
Love is the new religion of the 21st century
You don't have to be a highly educated person
Or have any exceptional knowledge to understand it
It comes from the intelligence of the heart
Embedded in the timeless evolutionary pulse of all human beings

Or already have....

Exhaling and Inhaling
Prayer is exhaling the spirit of man and inhaling the spirit of God. - Edwin Keith
I came across this quote this evening and I think it is a perfect visual for my morning practice of meditation.
I’ve been asking for help in the discipline of using the breath to go deep into the silence and let go of the chatter. Perhaps remembering this quote is part of the help I was seeking...

Certainty
“The only certainty is that nothing is certain.” – Pliny the Elder
‘Tis true that not much in this world and life is certain. Here’s my short list of what I bank on:
- God exists (what a switch for me from 19 years ago!).
- God wants only the highest good for me (I sometimes get in the way of that).
- God is ever present, in me, and outside of me.
- I need to give attention to my relationship with Spirit if I desire a meaningful one (as with other relationships).
- I can communicate in this relationship through prayer and meditation.
- God will always be around to help me and to provide guidance to me (if I ask and am open).
And, it is certain that the only time is now, and God is here with me, now.

Happiness
I flipped the page of my inspirational quotes wall calendar to the new month of June and read these words of Ralph Waldo Emerson: “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
“To be useful” translates to me as being of service. And, that means giving - of material and financial resources and, more importantly of myself. These days, during my active kundalini meditation particularly, I pray for the highest good of each being that comes to mind, and send each the Light. I’ve come to realize that this is indeed a way that I am giving of myself, being of service. In Emerson’s words, this is a way that I am being useful.
My practice also brings out my compassion for those I happen to know are going through a challenging time. And, I feel my praying for them is making a difference, as all prayer does whether we are aware of it or not. It makes a difference for the being I’m praying for, and I am blessed as well.
Base on the aforementioned and other reasons, I would have to conclude that I am living well. And, while being happy may not be the purpose of my life, it sure does seem that these other things result in bringing me happiness and make the inner, inherent flame of joy burn brighter.
The purpose of life may not be to be happy, but when I live rightly, I cannot but help be happy.

My Buddha Wheel
When I lived in Santa Fe, I used to ride a stationary exercise bike. I got into the habit of using the time to pray continuously, specifically for people. It was a wonderful experience each morning. Not only did it connect me with Spirit, but it connected me with people who I no longer physically lived closed to and missed.
Two wonderful exercises: physical and spiritual. My spiritual mentor at the time said my practice reminded him of the Buddha wheel.
“The wheel's motion is a metaphor for the rapid spiritual change engendered by the teachings of the Buddha.
It represents the endless cycle of rebirth, which can only be escaped by means of the Buddha's teachings. And some Buddhists regard the wheel's three basic parts as symbols of the "three trainings" in Buddhist practice: The hub symbolizes moral discipline, which stabilizes the mind. The spokes (usually there are eight) represent wisdom which is applied to defeat ignorance. The rim represents training in concentration, which holds everything else together.” [From www.religionfacts.com]
How very interesting...who knew?!
About seven weeks ago, I began making my morning practice an active Kundalini meditation. It consists of four stages of 15” each, with the first three set to music:
1st: Standing with feet firmly planted on the earth, I let my body shake.
2nd: Dancing
3rd: Sitting still
4th: Laying down in silence
During the active stages (1st and 2nd) I’ve worked on keeping my thoughts focused on the music or saying affirmations. But often, my mind wanders to details of everyday life, which is exactly what I’m looking to get away from. I’ve not felt this a good use of the mental part of this practice and recently asked Spirit, my angels, and all others interested in my upliftment for help. I prayed for focus and to make the best use of this time as Spirit saw fit.
Today I got the notion to continuously pray for my friends, family, and anyone that came to mind. And so I did. How wonderful to connect with Spirit and others in this way once more.
Looks like I’m back on the Buddha wheel again, opening up my heart, and reaching out to others through Spirit...

I entered the 12 Step program in March 1990 as a devout atheist. I soon discovered that people read daily meditation books related to their specific addiction, which helped them start their day off with some inspiration and contemplation. The words “God” or “Higher Power” could be found among the passages and it took some getting used to. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed the readings and found them helpful with my addiction of choice.
Within about six months, I was solidly believing in a Power greater than myself. Lo and behold, in February 1991 a publisher of recovery material came out with a new meditation book entitled In God’s Care (As We Understand God), Daily Meditations on Spirituality in Recovery. I embraced this little book because I wanted to be more focused on spirituality than on my addiction.
I gave my first copy, filled with lots of yellow highlights and black underscores, to a dear friend who was in AA, when he became seriously ill (I mentioned Jay in one of my first blogs). He made his transition some time later and I never got it back. I’m on my second copy now, 15+ years old.
My path has taken me beyond the 12 Steps, but I never tire of this book and still find joy and inspiration from reading of it. I can even read it online when the hard copy is not nearby. So, here’s part of today’s message:
“We see things not as they are, but as we are.” – H. M. Tomlinson
...Our more positive attitude today changes our understanding of earlier experiences... If we rely on God’s help, we’ll come to understand all our experiences as opportunities for growth and fulfillment. We can trust them, live through them, and be grateful for their contribution to our spiritual development.
The attitude we harbor is powerful...God is always available to help us accept the circumstances of our life.
In the midst of our latest adventures of bankruptcy, foreclosure, building our businesses, and looking for a place to hang our hats, both Rog and I are doing our spiritual work, staying connected to HP, and keeping a positive, joyful attitude. God is always available - to guide us, help us, uplift us.

Modern Meditation
Many moons ago, the fundamental concerns of human beings were basically food, clothing, and shelter. Not that those were insignificant concerns, but boy, I bet meditation was pretty simple back then!
These days, the mind can wrap itself around many more thoughts to distract us from being peaceful in the silence. Think about it. We have far more things in our lives today that provide perfect detours from getting and staying still.
I need to check my email... the car needs an oil change... we’ve run out of gluten to make bread... the water bill needs to get paid. Or perhaps it’s like this: One-year old Jaynie must get into Yale when she’s 18... First class isn’t available on the flight to Bermuda... My presentation isn’t good enough... people do not understand the importance of bees...
Whatever its flavor, it’s crazy! Quiet, meditation with a blank mind is something I strive for, yearn for.
I pray for the chatter to cease so that I may “be still and know God.”

Spiritual Refreshment
I’ve just come home from a Unity service. I was exhausted as I left the house, having stayed up way too late working on computer-related projects. Nonetheless, I knew that going to Unity would be a worthwhile activity as it would feed my soul (my most important need) and then even perhaps refresh my body. It did.
There, I was in the company and energy of other people seeking peace, comfort, and connection. I was refreshed through meditation, prayer, words of the lesson, and music.
Dear, sweet music for my soul. An instrumentalist, Paul McDermand, played steel drums choosing selections mellow enough for the setting. It’s unusual to not have a singer to provide the gift of music, but Paul’s music was delightful, and seeing the joy upon his face as he worked his art was an additional boost for my spirit.
And, I “lifted my voice” several times in song, my most enjoyable pastime. In so doing, I was also of service. Observing that there was no formal singer to lead the congregation in song, I decided that I would really put my all into singing and hopefully aid others in their musical expression. Besides, I was alone in my 2nd row position and there was no one sitting in the row in front of me to disturb! Singing spiritual songs with all my heart and in bold voice, I felt wonderful.
I don’t know if anyone around me heard me or was helped by me. But, I know that my idea was inspired and following it put me in a giving space and made me feel a closer connection to Spirit and the other church attendees. It was additional spiritual fuel for my soul, a surprise treat.
There are many ways to give, and it is no doubt true that as we give, we receive.
Now I’m fueled up spiritually, physically too, and ready to move forward in my day.
Thank You, Spirit, for the myriad ways I receive connection and I get to give.

Today!
Amidst the excitement and preparation for dear friends visiting this weekend, I asked Spirit this morning in meditation for any messages. What I received was “Enjoy the day!”
Coupled with a reading “Our primary purpose today is to know and give love” (In God’s Care, February 6), I expect to have a pretty nifty day!

Shower Time
I so love being in the shower. It’s not just that I’m a water person (a Cancerian), but I find it to be such a peaceful place. Shower time is prayer and meditation time for me!
Singing in general is a form of prayer for me. Even when I was an atheist, I felt something special inside me when I sang. When I came to believe, I realized what that feeling had been: connection with Spirit.
So, I’m usually singing in the shower, maybe even chanting. It might be only within my head, or in an outward alto voice, fortissimo. Sometimes I get into contemplation mode. Other times, I pray for others.
It really is a great time to connect with Spirit. And, when I don’t have to rush off but can luxuriate in slow mode – well, it’s pure heaven.
Warm water soothing my body, warm thoughts and feelings soothing my soul.
God is everywhere, blessing me in often simple ways...

Truth
How do we know what's true? Science? Intuition? Meditation? Perhaps there is no way to know the truth...
This was the topic of Monday night’s Gilbert Spirituality Meetup. The discussion was interesting, the personal sharing insight-provoking, and the discussion touched upon a number of other topics, some of which have been themselves the focus of a full evening.
Here’s some bullet points about what I heard regarding truth:
The observer influences the object being perceived.
Repeated thoughts create beliefs, which lead to one’s truth.
Truth changes as we change.
Truth is either “relative” or “absolute.” Relative truth is phenomenal, behavioral, or intellectual. Absolute truth is that which you can’t understand but which you know is true.
There are levels of truth: known, unknown, unknowable.
Truth cannot be rationalized.
Personally, since coming to believe in God, my notion of what is true has changed. Just like when I held an atheistic philosophy which had me perceive the world one way, as a theist I see the world in a way that reflects that view. And, where once I thought I was so logical and strictly in my head that I could be 100% objective about matters, I now see that is not so.
Once again my heart and mind resonated with a lot of what was said. We members have a lot of similar ideas and experiences regarding spirituality. It’s fun to see it revealed.
Here’s one last point of information that was shared: Do you know the difference between a metaphysician and a physicist? Metaphysicians don’t like to do the math!
