My prayer today is: Thank You, God! Thank You, God! Thank You, God! I guess it’s an affirmation as well.
I’m grateful that I feel I made some progress in my daily practice of sitting in the Silence, of quieting the mind. I actually was able to focus mainly on my breath for a great portion of the ½ hour. And by focusing on the breath, one can only be in the present moment, in the Now. That is where Consciousness resides, that is where The Presence can be felt. When I did find myself back in the chatter of the little Me, I was inspired to chant Thank You, God! Thank You, God! Thank You, God! and get back to the breath, to the Now.
I’m grateful that I finally got back to my morning stretches. Ever since we moved to Sedona 7+ months ago, those had gone by the wayside. My morning schedule wasn’t so open any more, the floors are Saltillo tile (beautiful - and hard), and I don’t have my own private space where I can stretch to soothing music; challenges no doubt, but not roadblocks if I am willing and open to change. I finally became willing enough.
So this morning I am b-r-e-a-t-h-i-n-g deeply and I am feeling more conscious and more healthy in body, mind, and spirit. It feels great!
Thank You, God! Thank You, God! Thank You, God!

The Two "F's"
I have been offered a large work project which will stretch my knowledge a bit. It is a wonderful opportunity in many ways, yet I find myself in fear. One part of my mind knows I can accomplish it - that I have the skill, the talent, and access to learning resources if they are needed. But the other part of my mind is chattering away saying the opposite, being negative.
You know that other part of the mind - the ego, the ‘little me.’ It will always try to shoot me in the left foot, tell me I’m not good enough, and take me out of the Now, down the road to the future.
Fear lies in the future. Faith is here, now. Faith brings my consciousness back to the One Source from which all parts of me flow.
Today I will remember to stay in the Now, to stay in faith. God is with me always, blessing me in every situation. All is for my highest good.
Dear Spirit-
Bless me with staying in the moment and not projecting into the future. Replace any fear I may have with faith and keep me focused on Thee.

Plans
From time to time throughout my lifetime - especially when my ego was comparing me to other people - I would regret that I had not consciously planned out my life. You know, like the boy in 3rd grade who just knew he wanted to be a doctor and was preparing for med school at age 8. Or, the young lady in junior high who was already singing in musical theatre.
I received little guidance from my parents about this game called life, and simultaneously there did not seem to be any great specific desires inside me to stir me up.
Sure, I knew that I wanted to go to college despite my parents never asking me what I was going to do with my life after high school. And, I had this great yearning for what I would now call my twin flame. I seemed to have mini-plans but nothing that tied them all together.
When I entered the 12 Step program twenty years ago I heard many slogans to assist me from ‘picking up’ and to live life on life’s terms. One of these was “Failing to plan is planning to fail;” I have to say I was never quite comfortable with that one. Perhaps I felt it a bit contra to other ideas like God has a plan for me and more will be revealed, etc. And, then there’s the joke “How do you make God laugh? Tell Him you plans!”
On my journey I’ve embraced the notion that I’m a powerful being and co-create my life, and I’ve embraced I’m powerless and God is in charge. Well, which is it?
These days I once again am back to the idea that God has a plan for me and there’s really not much I can do about it. I do not find that aversive because the God of my understanding is total Love, Goodness, Grace, Joy, etc., so Its plan for me can only have such qualities as well. And, this is actually a relief. I can surrender and rest in Spirit’s most loving and competent hands and know that all is well. And, of course, it’s my choice to have an attitude of gratitude even when I can’t see the blessings in the darkness.
Yes, I am powerful, but only because that power comes through from Source. And, Source indeed has a divine plan for me.
Having learned about living in the Now, as I reflect back on my childhood so many years ago, perhaps I was a bit more ‘together’ than I give myself credit for. Just maybe I didn’t make a conscious plan for my life because I was simply living in the present moment, letting my life unfold according to the plan of an Unseen Power. And, my life was exactly how God planned it.

Joy From Spirit
One of this morning’s readings was about laughter and it got me thinking...
Last night was weekly rehearsal time for the Mystic Choir. I experience such joy there. I feel joy not only in singing, but in our opening and closing prayer time, chatting with others before and after the rehearsal, the ‘hello’ hugs and the ‘good night’ ones, and in connecting to Spirit throughout this special time in a special sanctuary.
Laughter is another time of joy for me. I don’t get it on a prescribed, regular interval of the week, but when it comes my way, I grasp it. For laughter, like singing for me, is also a time to connect with others and God. It is a time of being so in the Now that I forget myself and just let me be.
There are times when laughter brings me to tears, tears of joy. And too, when the lyrics and/or the music of a song bring me to tears, my heart has been touched; I feel closer to God and joy.
Dear Spirit -
Thank You for the myriad of ways You open my heart to connect with myself, with others, and with You. Thank You for the joy You grace me with. Help me to be awake to the moments that lighten and open my heart and may the radiance and joy of Your love shine in me.

The Road
“God made the world round so we would never be able to see too far down the road.” - Isaak Dinesen
I’ve no need to look far down the road because Now is the only time there is. The Presence is my focus and fills my vision. I am at peace; all is well.

Patience and Faith
“Patience, patience, patience, is what the sea teaches. Patience and faith. One should lie empty, open, choice less as a beach – waiting for a gift from the sea." - A Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh
“Patience” is the word that Spirit whispered in my ear as I came towards the end of a conversation with Rog last night. Patience for what? Patience with him and for the spiritual journey he is on, patience with my own spiritual path, and patience with my ego.
There’s that part of me that wants answers and solutions immediately. And, that part would gladly dive into a quick-fix without weighing future repercussions.
Being patient with my ego, treating it kindly like a little kid, gives me a chance to breathe, slow down, and be in the now. I am able to open up what was a closing heart and enjoy some peace.
Inherent in this patience is the faith, the knowing, that Spirit sits with me while I wait and seek a solution that flows with ease and grace and is for the highest good of all.

Just For One Day
“God just for one day let me see only the good. Give me the eyes of faith, the heart of hope.” – Daily Guideposts, February 7, 2010
God just for one day let me be free of judgment. Let me see through Your eyes with love and understanding of my fellows, practicing compassion and mercy.
God just for one day let me be full of faith every second. Give me the courage and the strength to trust in You and Your Will.
God just for one day may I honor You and praise You first, and then ask for Your Help. Let me feel Your Love, Your Joy, Your Peace.
And, God, just for one day let me live in the Now, not the future nor the past. Let me truly live one day at a time.

Within
Every tomorrow has two handles. We can take hold of it with the handle of anxiety or the handle of faith. - Henry Ward Beecher
I’ll take hold of tomorrow with faith.
Better still, I will remain in the present, and feel God within me now.
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Children in the Now
At this ripe age of 54 I have observed far too many broken relationships between parents and their adult children. This seems to be the situation even in the case of family members who were close in the growing up years. And, it goes either way: the parent has chosen to distance themselves, or the child.
I observed this fissure recently in the case of a family that, more than any other, I’m quite familiar with. Taking the view of a parent, it made me wonder what was really the point of having children (from the individual’s, not the human race, point of view).
This is not the first time I’ve pondered this question. In fact, I decided at the ripe ‘ol age of 16 that I did not want to have children. Consciously, my reason was so that I could do what I wanted unencumbered, you know, travel, build a career, etc. But I fully admit that there probably were some unconscious reasons too, although I think that matters not. At this age I can honestly say that I have never for one second regretted my decision. And that decision, I might add, was not always one met with support by others, be they relatives or my personal physician; I had to fight for my choice.
That said, it seems to me that if you have and raise children with the idea that at some future time you will receive satisfaction, you will get your reward, something is off kilter. ... Perhaps your daughter will become the singer you had hoped to be and you’ll feel your dream is fulfilled, or maybe your idea is that you’ll have someone to take care of you when you’re elderly. I think not.
Like anything else, we must stay in the Now. That is where the joy is. That is where God is. We do not know what the future will bring and making plans (giving God a good laugh) for when you’ll really enjoy your children down the road, is fairly certain to bring dismay – like any expectation. And, there are no guarantees as to the relationship you’ll have with one another later in life even if you enjoyed closeness in the earlier years.
Maybe I was somewhat more awake than my peers or maybe my dysfunctional family dynamics seeped into my unconscious quickly so that my decision to remain childless took hold at any early age. But now when waking up is even more important for the planet and happening at lightening speed to those who want it, staying in the Now is even more crucial.
And this pertains to choosing consciously to have and raise children, being in joy in the Now as together you go through their life stages. The ‘payoff’ has to be in the Now. That’s a win-win for all.

Off Hold
Today’s Daily Thought in the Guideposts Devotional to pray about is “Lord, give me the courage to pursue that which I have put on hold. Now.”
I have been feeling for years, and saying almost daily, “I don’t have enough time.” It has dulled my joy, weighed me down at all levels, and been a self-fulfilling prophecy. In discussing this expression with Rog the other day, we got that the words were actually not accurate – imagine all these years repeating such an incorrect (as well as debilitating) statement! It would be correct to say that I don’t get done what I would like to each day including taking care of my self and my soul. And, it would be far healthier to say “I would like to do and be more.”
So what has kept me from being more, doing more with the 24 hours in my day? What makes me feel that there is always one more thing to do? And, that I must be doing, doing, doing?
Ego. Fear. Keep a person busy and they don’t have time to be as conscious as they could be. Keep them immersed in the minutiae of everyday living, and they keep themselves from knowing who they really are, knowing their dreams, pursuing their life purpose, connecting with and serving God fully. Being.
It takes courage to be. I’ve taken my self and my soul – my life – off hold and am paying attention to them with great care now. Knowing God is with me gives me the courage to deal with whatever may surface as I move into more and more consciousness. For with awakening, the shadow side comes up, and with it some pain. But blessing it, with Spirit it dissipates, and I am free to be the fuller me. To be a human being not a human doing.

Restful Words
I first heard “Rest unto me that I may rest unto thee” at the Unity of Sedona church. And, ever since then whenever I hear it uttered or see the words in print, a veil of peace descends upon me. It is just so lovely and comforting.
Just like another statement I’ve heard often at Unity: “Peace. Be still.” Chanting this is a helpful way to calm down and I use it as a meditation.
These statements call to mind Matthew 11:28-30 -
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
‘Tis true that I let out a big “Ahhh” when I hear any of the aforementioned. Keeping my focus on Spirit, I am in the Now. There I find rest, peace, stillness, and my yoke becomes easy and my burden light.

Present Demonstration
My prayer this morning was...
Dear God;
Thank You for this day.
In this moment, all is well - may I stay here, in the Now. Let me not look to the future, nor even to the past. For it is only in the Now that You are. It is only here that I am in peace. There is no fear here.
And then I read...
“... there is not the slightest reason to be discouraged merely because one’s present demonstration seems to be very poor and spiritual power entirely lacking.” - Emmet Fox, in his essay The Everlasting Gates
Granted, it is not true that my present demonstration is “very poor” nor my spiritual power “entirely lacking.” However, there are a couple of areas in my life that I feel fearful about. These are pointers that tell me I need to focus on God, on the Now. Here is where there is power, strength, faith. And peace.
It’s always about (getting back to) peace.

Forgiving Me
I don’t think my plate has ever been as full as it is now as we continue transitioning from life in Gilbert to life in Sedona. And because of that, certain tasks have gone by the wayside or not been addressed in a timely manner or not been done as perfectly as I (and perhaps others) think they should have been.
It’s time for forgiving – me, moi, Joyce. I’m doing the best I can in each 24-hour period given to me and it must be enough. In fact, it’s better than enough.
I don’t think Spirit has me here to act like a machine. I am here to learn, to grow, to help others, to serve, to be happy. I want to find the joy in this day, and I want to be in the Now to feel the Presence.
The other day at a blessing gathering I got the hit that forgiveness is about surrender. I surrender to God the ideas I hold about myself and others, how things should be, and let go. I let God handle my actions and my thoughts. I surrender my heart to God as I forgive myself and others.
Today I am filled with peace as I choose to forgive myself and surrender my life to Spirit. Thank You, Spirit!

Itinerary Versus Attitude
God’s will is not an itinerary but an attitude. – Andrew Dhuse
When I think of the word itinerary, I think of the material world and taking action. Hence, if I think of God’s will as an itinerary, it means I have to be doing something. It also probably means there is a final destination.
But the aforementioned quote suggests that God’s will is an “attitude”. And, in that word, I sense then that it is the state of being, rather than doing, that is what counts. It places me in the Now, and destination is of no consideration.
Today, as I turn my will and my life over to the care of God as I understand God, my attitude reigns. From my heart, I ask God to run my life. God does the work of managing my life, not me. And, with that, I rest in peace.

Focus
“I will keep my focus very small today and let God be in charge.” – In God’s Care, November 3
Keeping my focus means that I’m staying in the moment, a very good place to be. And, when I’m in the Now, letting God be in charge comes easier.

From Here to Eternity
"Savor the moment, for it is through your intention to fully embrace what is, right now, that you transform this moment into eternity."
- The Voice for Love, Saturday, September 26, 2009
“Eternity” has some interesting definitions. For some folks it means existing for a limitless amount of time, and for others, it refers to a timeless existence altogether outside of time.
Living and embracing the moment for what it is right now seems like a good idea in and of itself. How I live now will determine, to some extent, how I live in the next moment and further on down the road like tomorrow.
However I choose to use the word eternity, I know that Spirit is with me always, wherever I am. In time or outside of time, in space or outside of space, God and I are inseparable. And, that sits just fine with me.

In the Now With God
Dear God;
Thank You for this day. I am grateful for staying more and more in the Now. Here is peace, here is You.
While I’ve recently found myself reflecting back into my past, it has been for remembering and learning to help prepare me for the future to come. And yet, I dwell on the future less and less and less. For this I am grateful, for the future can be filled with a 4-letter word (“fear”), and I do not wish to dwell there. I intend to stay and be in the Now. With You and Your Love.
Thank You for Your Grace. Grace inspires and moves me in the direction of my highest good. Grace helps me co-create the future with You, in peace, when the time is right.
In this day, through every moment, breathing deeply in the Now, I am refreshed and renewed by You. Thank You, Spirit!

Thank You for Your Grace. Grace inspires and moves me in the direction of my highest good. Grace helps me co-create the future with You, in peace, when the time is right.
In this day, through every moment, breathing deeply in the Now, I am refreshed and renewed by You. Thank You, Spirit!

Enlightenment
This morning, during coffee vacation with Rog, my ego got off into expressing itself, venting frustration, fear, and who knows what else. I certainly wasn’t in my right mind as I thought about my current life and what was going on in it, or for that matter, what was not going on it. I was far from being in the mode of acceptance, surrender or joy. I was in a hissy fit.
And so I had to chuckle when I listened to an audio file Rog had sent my way last night. In it, the speaker told the following story.
Edgar Cayce was asked “What is it to be enlightened?” He said, “Prior to enlightenment you would chop wood, build fire, and carry water. Then after enlightenment you would chop wood, build fire, and carry water. The only difference after enlightenment is you would enjoy the process.”
Well I certainly wasn’t thinking in an enlightened manner this morning when my ego took over. I may not always be a happy camper enjoying the process that my life is in the middle of these days. However, if I would ‘just’ stay focused in the Now, on God, I might be enlightened for the moment (my ego would lighten up). And, there I would find peace.

The Signal is Out
“When you begin to understand Law of Attraction, and you understand that which is like unto itself is drawn, then it is easier and easier to understand that you are offering a signal, and the entire Universe responds.” - Abraham (Excerpted from 06.20.98 Seattle, WA workshop)
The signal I am offering to the Universe today – and since Sunday – is the very passionate desire to relocate up north, to be in community, in nature, to nourish my soul in ways unique to the Verde Valley/Red Rock Country area of Arizona. And, this desire (and perhaps my stubbornness) makes me put out to the Universe that we will be in our new home by the end of August, having gotten there in ease and grace and in accordance with God’s Will.
I do not ask of God “how” this will occur. I know that when I finally asked for God’s help to leave Santa Fe, I received it in ways I’d have thought ridiculous or impossible if anyone had predicted the “how”. But I surrendered, committed to my part, and left the big “how” to Spirit. Within six months I had relocated to the Phoenix area, far less time than the three year plan I had originally sketched out.
With fiery passion in my heart, lessons learned from the past, my life partner Rog by my side, and God’s power and grace, I move forward to realizing my dreams. I am attracting that to which I am drawn and the Universe is responding with a big time “Now”!
I am so grateful.

Question Session
Rog and I are really feeling stuck. We simply do not know what God’s plan is for us. We go about our day with plenty of work of various sorts keeping us busy and fulfilled to varying degrees. But we know much of it is not our true work. Still, we don’t know for sure what Spirit would like us to be doing. And, we continue to be eager to move to a smaller, more rural community and start what we think to be our new life.
So last night together we sat in the Silence seeking answers from Spirit enveloped by soft candlelight, holding hands. Each time I awoke in the middle of the night, I had on my mind “Sprit, please tell me what You want, what Your plans are for me, for us...”
And, this morning, my alone time had me asking Spirit question-after-question about what Its Will for me and for us is. This is something I’ve not seemed to have done in a very long time. Usually I am easing the chatter for messages to come through or I’m sending messages out in a variety of modalities (prayer, affirmation). This time I was seeking a dialogue, you know, a là Neal Donald Walsch (of “Conversations with God” fame).
I got some replies back to my questions. I’m not sure if they came from Spirit or from Ego. I tend to think that they came from Spirit because I think Ego would have come up with some more appealing and dramatic ones.
At this time, I believe Spirit wants me to be patient, to continue growing closer to God, to increase my capacity to ask and then do Thy Will, not mine. It’s about surrender, it’s about trust. It’s about just Being and being in the Now.
I’ll keep on asking and talking with God, knowing that more will be revealed of the Divine Plan when the time is correct. For today, this rests well with me and I am at peace.
